A Little About Our Café

the endless pursuit for health, wellness & sustainability

The word “Lapan” refers to the number 8 in the Malay language. It is a figure of infinity and an analogy to our endless pursuit to help people regain health and wellness by serving a menu filled with wholesome macrobiotic meals, a select variety of healthy condiments and vegan ingredients.

We endeavor to operate sustainably with minimum waste and source produce directly from our own food garden. We recycle kitchen scraps into compost, which is returned to the garden to revitalize the soil. Edible yet often discarded ingredient parts are also transformed into innovative dishes, e.g. preserving broccoli and cauliflower stems to create probiotic pickles with an amazingly refreshing crunch.

Most of the decor in our café are made out of recycled materials. Our tables and chairs are “rescued” from charitable friends and business associates. Our tableware and cutleries, coming in various shapes and sizes, are also procured from various recycled sources.

Lapan Café serves only clean food and drinks — unadulterated and minimally processed. Our menu includes a vast array of drinks, appetizers, soups, salads, main courses, desserts and seasonal specials, always freshly prepped and cooked to order based on macrobiotic principles. With an extensive list of dishes contrived from a fusion of Eastern and Western cuisine, you are bound to find something you love!

German Style Bakery

Also known as Hanspeter Bio Bäckerei, we run the first artisan bakery in Malaysia that specializes in slow and natural bread fermentation using 95% organic ingredients. Established in 2009 based on the concepts developed by German Master Bio Baker Hanspeter Wibbet, our bakery serves a wide range of healthy sourdough breads, cakes, snacks and pastries, along with a selection of gluten-free alternatives.

Vegan Macrobiotic Grocery

Our café also functions as a green grocer, bringing fresh seasonal produce and an array of macrobiotic ingredients (available both wholesale and retail) to the general public. The fruits and vegetables available in our store are mostly locally-produced and organically-grown, whereas the majority of our macrobiotic ingredients such as seasonings and dried goods are of Japanese origin.

Urban Container Garden

After 5 whole months of hard work and dedication, we are proud to present our very own sustainable and fully organic urban container garden. Situated right next to the café entrance, the garden nurtures up to 65 varieties of trees, herbs, vegetables and flowers in a limited space. Harvested first thing in the early hours of each morning, the garnishes for your meal simply can't get any fresher than this!

Sustainable Tea Bar

Relax and indulge at our fine tea bar, the first of its kind in Malaysia to serve tea that is both pure and sustainable. Our garden-to-bar concept is also well-received by our patrons, who are very in much in love with our complementary herb-infused water, served daily using ingredients plucked straight from our garden. It's a real quencher for thirst and fatigue after a long day at work.
